i am in a situation ..... i want to buy a new home but my debt to income ratio does not allow me to purchase the home i want.
since i have great credit i am able to go stated income...the problem is that i will have to fib a little to get the loan amount i want.
my issue here is that i don't feel great about fibbingbut i want the loan amount.
They will verify that the income you stated on the application is correct, you know. Stated income combined with your exemplary credit record may get you a quick pre-approval letter, but actual due-dilligence checks will be done to verify your information as accurate before they just hand you a mortgage approval and fork over the cash. It's not as if they'll say "Well, he listed $200,000 per year here on the app, that's good enough for me!"
Don't lie about it, it will likely come back to bite you on the behind. And, on the off chance that your lender's office is silly enough to approve you based on the information you give them without proof of it's veracity, you'll be saddled with a mortgage that-by your own admission-you can't actually afford.
Perhaps you could spend a few months working to decrease your debt:income ratio to an acceptable level before you saddle yourself with a mortgage that the bank wouldn't honestly extend to you based on your current debt level.

i have a weight problem also (about 40 pounds over my best weight).. i was out with my girlfriend today.
I have so much to say on this subject that I am simply bursting at the seams. What I have to say will likely not be popular, but that doesn't make it any less valid. As a formerly morbidly obese person who bought into all the "it's not my fault" mentalities for years and finally took control of my weight and lifestyle, I have learned that the hardest thing that I, and most (yes most) of the obese people I know or have known, have had to do in an effort to shed excess pounds was to learn to be honest. Honest with myself about my habits, honest about the amount and types of food that I was putting in my mouth, honest about my activity level, honest about the reasons I did nothing about the reasons I allowed myself to become obese, and honest about the reasons I remained that way for so many years.
Are there people out there who, through a genetic or metabolic abnormality simply cannot lose weight? Absolutely. Are they a significant percentage of those who are overweight/obese? No. Did I fit into that category of people? Nope. I, like the majority of those who are significantly overweight became so by a pretty simple formula: I ate too much, and moved too little. Does genetics hand some of us a raw deal? Of course. Do some people have a propensity toward carrying excess weight as a result? Yep. Do some of us have a problem with food and our use of it? Yes. Does that mean that we powerless to become thinner and healthier without radical surgery or restrictive temporary diets? Absolutely not. Is it an easy road to reprogram our habits and thoughts and lifestyle to achieve a thinner body and more active, healthy lifestyle? No, but can it be done? YES. And that is the what it all comes down to folks: Control. For most of us who are/have been overweight, our weight is absolutely within our control. And if we can control something, and choose not to through denial or misplaced blame, we can validly be judged accordingly. It's a tough pill to swallow, but if you want to get well you have to take your medicine like an adult. Taking responsibility for my weight was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, but it was also one of the most important.
It took me the better part of 30 years to figure out that I could lose weight, and I know that my denial of the problem boiled down to the fact that I simply wasn't ready to acknowledge it. No one can make a change until they are ready, and you will never hear me disparage anyone for not being ready. It took a long time, but I did face it, and I have kept a list along the way of hundreds of ways my life has improved as a result. Perhaps my favorite item on that list is this: "I am no longer seen as a woman who allowed herself to become morbidly obese--I am now seen as a woman who has taken control of her life and her health". I love being that woman.
If I am to be judged, let it be by the things I can control. My weight, I finally realize, is one of those things.

i pressed the button to get in the lift this morning at work.. under the button, i noticed the braille and wondered how a blind person would find the button in the first place.. when the lift came, the doors opened along with a voice telling me "doors opening" ... gee, i would never have worked it out if it hadn't told me!.
inside were the same braille symbols on the buttons.
i pressed the one for the ground floor and the lift told me "going down" ... good job 'cause i was on the top floor.. at the bottom i was told "door opening" (so that's how i got in here?!
I wonder about these things too, Simon. Like why in the world do they have braille instructions on the keypads at drive-thru automatic teller machines. And why do they post signs that say "Braille menu available on request"? Who's reading that?
But as to your specific complaints, the voice overs are for the sight-impaired--not for you. And as to why the braille numbers are on the elevator keys, elevator controls are pretty much standard world round---there will be key pads on the right side (or both in some elevators) and as such a blind person would know the general area in which they will reach to find the button that will (thanks to handy braille labels) take them to their desired floor.
As to how a blind person would end up, unaccompanied, on the bottom floor of a parking garage, you're on your own there!

When someone writes "I am suppose to" or "I use to do that". Put the 'd' on the end of those words, people. That common error drives me to distraction!
People with strong opinions on subjects they don't understand.
People who claim to be discriminated against on the basis of attributes that are completely within their control.
People who exhibit an attitute of unreasonable entitlement. No one owes you an expensive wedding/birthday/baby gift, just as no one is owed a fancy dinner at a reception or free drinks at a party. On a broader level, no one owes you job satisfaction or relationship fulfillment.
People who the wrong direction through parking lot lanes, then expect you to let them have the parking space becoming available that they'll have to back up and turn 5 times to even get into.
People who wear clothes that may be trendy and cute on someone who is 17 and a size 6, when they are anything but. Just because it comes in your size doesn't mean you should wear it.
Parents who say "I can't control what they do" when discussing their children's ridiculous behavior. You are the parent for God's sake, act like it. I can damn well control the clothes and make-up my 12 year old daughter will wear, believe you me.
People who pipe in with "Oh I know just what you mean, my dogs do the same thing" when you're discussing your children.
The way actors in infomercials make simple, mundane, everyday tasks seem insurmountable in order to demonstrate how much easier their product will make their life. I swear to god, if I see one more actor shake his fist and stamp his foot after draining pasta in a regular collander or watch one more woman give an exaggerated sigh before throwing her regular non-motorized hairbrush accross the room in frustration I'm going to take a hostage.
Apparently, I could go on all day about things that tick me off....I hate it when people do that!
the retired marine that took on the home owners association for the right to fly his american flag won the case against them and earned the right to fly his flag.
however...he was then sued by the home owners association to be forced to pay their legal fees.
stupid...he's appealling.
I like the HOA's in theory....
A group of individuals concerned about the appearance of and behavior within their community form an association to keep their neighborhood clean and safe for all who reside in it. Good idea. There are certain standards that should be kept that are strengthened by such organizations and their by-laws. Property free of hazards, unsightly trash (i.e. cars on blocks, yards full of old appliances, etc.), bizarre paint or siding colors, livestock running around the front yard, etc. And while I have a few issues about the whole "Do what we say you should on the property you purchased and own" mentality, I fully agree that if you purchase property in an area with a restrictive covenant and sign to abide by their rules that you have agreed to do so.
The problems, almost without exception, come into play when the management of the HOA is suddenly in the hands of someone with an over inflated sense of self who takes masturbatory pleasure in the idea that they now wield immense power in their new position. The kind of person who has very little else to do than go policing about the neighborhood with a clip board, a measuring tape, and a copy of the HOA's by-laws inventing infractions they can then demand be remedied with the sense of power and authority they just knew they were always entitled to. You know exactly the type of person I'm talking about. They make themselves a giant pain the ass of every good, honest, law abiding citizen in the neighborhood and put a bad taste in your mouth about HOA's the moment they enter the position.
Case in point: My husband and I purchased our home nearly 4 years ago. We were aware of, read, agreed to, and signed the HOA agreement for our community. Upon purchase of our property (which was built 3 years earlier by the previous owner) we were told that our house and yard and all existing fixtures were in full compliance with the HOA bylaws. 2 years ago, 2 years AFTER we purchased our home, we received a letter from the new president (read: busybody, power hungry, egocentric, nothing better to do neighbor "Betsy") of our HOA saying that fencing was not in compliance as it was two inches too tall and the color wasn't approved. The fence that had been installed the same year the house was built, that had been certified fully in compliance 2 years prior to the letter, the same fence that had been standing for 5 years with no color change, was suddenly unacceptable. We would have to tear it down and replace it, or face stiff penalties from the HOA including (and I am NOT kidding) eventual seizure of our property if we didn't comply. We calmly pointed out that the fence wasn't objectionable for the five previous years and had even been certified to be IN compliance two years ago, and that the mistake on the part of the HOA would be generously overlooked by us. It took three more replies to increasingly rude letters, innumerable phone calls and two meetings, but we were finally able to point out that there was nothing wrong with our fence. That whole situation left a very negative impression about Betsy and her HOA leadership.
After that, it seemed that our HOA president paid a great deal of attention to our property. I received a letter that the ceramic pots flanking my porch were not allowed (wrong, they were fine), that the paint color in my guest bathroom was distracting when the blinds were open, so could be considered an extension of our house color (Hello? That was dropped quickly...) and that the edging stones I'd chosen for our front yard landscaping were unapproved and would need to be removed (again, we were allowed to keep them). It seems that other neighbors were receiving the same kind of ridiculous scrutiny because it wasn't long after that Betsy's regime ended and calmer seas have since prevailed. But it was a good lesson for us in how a good idea can become a serious pain in the ass simply by virtue of the personal agenda of those who are charged with it's leadership.

Two years ago, that morning had been so hectic, I hadn’t even turned on the TV. I remember throwing open the patio door and sticking out a test-arm to determine the weather instead of flipping on the news like I usually did. My husband had left for work an hour earlier, taking our toddler daughter to daycare, so I loaded my 6 year old son into the car, and headed toward school listening distractedly to the "Elmo’s Sing-Along Party" CD that had been left in the player the evening before. I didn’t even turn on the radio until after I watched my son enter the school building. A few blocks from school, I turned into the drive through at my favorite coffee shop, and was counting my exact change while only half-listening until I heard the familiar line "Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United States." As I gradually got my mind around what I was hearing, I remember asking Gene at the drive-through window if he knew what was going on, he told me to get out of my car and take a look. So it happens that my first images of the terrible events of that day were viewed with my upper body stuck through the drive through window at "Cappu-Gene-O’s" with a caramel latte in my hand and tears on my cheeks.
After arriving at my office, we all poured into the big conference room watching the coverage and trying to understand what this meant for our world. I watched the pentagon burn and the twin towers fall on a 12 foot projection wall screen. I don’t need to describe my feelings those next few hours and days and weeks, you all know exactly what I was experiencing, we went through it together.
Where I bet our experience differs lies in the fact that we live in Omaha, NE. Strategic Air Command is right in our back-yard. While the rest of the country remarked on the eerie stillness overhead, we would hear and see the skies filled with activity. We all stood on the upper deck of our office building a few hours after the attacks and watched the blue-nosed Air Force One fly by to land out at the airforce base. We watched the eerily quiet stealth bombers soar overhead, always surprised by their sudden appearance in the sky. We were startled awake in the middle of the night by the roar of gigantic C-130 transport planes on their way overseas with troops and supplies. No, the skies weren’t quiet, they hummed with sounds I’d never heard before, sounds of war. I am strangely thankful for the noise. I think the quiet would have been more unbearable.
Two years out, I am almost surprised at how emotional I still am. I can’t foresee a day when my throat won’t tighten, where my eyes won’t well up when I remember those days. I can’t imagine a time that, when I see the film of hundreds of people lined up clutching photocopied pictures of their loved ones begging anyone who has any information to call them, that it won’t break my heart. I don’t think it will ever cease to sadden and surprise me that my 8 year old son knows and fully understands the phrase "terrorist attack", that my daughter won’t ever have any recollection of a time before 9/11. So there it is: Where I was, where I still am. There is something comforting in finally saying all of this, and reading what other people remember. Thank you, everyone, for your stories.
